As you consider the role of research in business communication, we invite you to ask yourself the following introspective questions:

How important is it to use reliable and factual sources and data when communicating in business?

Who is your audience? Do they require formal citation or other forms of attribution and credit?

How do you evaluate a source? How do you know if something is any good or not?

In this module, we will look at the above questions, and many more related topics around the idea of research. Secondary research is used in both academic and business research projects. It involves collecting data and information that already exists for either scholarly or non – academic purposes. This category of research is focused on gathering results of other people ‘ s research which were done by employing the exploratory research to assemble information. More people believed that secondary research is not authentic as this type research does not involve researchers ‘ own facts and figures. There are so many sources available for secondary research. Some of these are scholarly journals, books, government publications, industry reports, theses, and dissertations. There are a variety of different references of information that researchers can use to obtain data from secondary data sources. These types of information include publications of federal, state, and local government agencies, newspapers, magazines, different types of books and what I consider to be the most important: computerized information. The internet continues to become a more widely used tool for finding secondary data due to its capabilities, rendering it the most useful for my research. information will be studied and a person’s conclusion will be based off of what his or her motive is to write the essay or articles in her profession based on what she or he thinks of the outcome at any given time (Williams et al., 2021).

Critically analyzing external documents to shape up your thesis, then picking up information that backs up what you have claimed, is involved in secondary research. In order to have validity and further credit his claims, the author could include secondary articles with contradictory beliefs. This would show that he thought of other people ‘ s beliefs before determining his own. As he added in points, he could recalculate and give further measures to prevent the bias claim. When incorporating external sources, it is imperative to follow the correct documentation guidelines every time. Adherence to specified guidelines allows the consumer to easily identify and locate the source documentation used within the body of the research document. Several formatting styles include: APA (American Psychological Association), MLA (Modern Language Association), and CMS (The Chicago Manual Style). Each of these formatting standards instructs the researcher on how to properly cite research sources such as journals, encyclopedias, newspapers, Internet, etc (Chazette & Schneider 2020).

Instead of generating new data from research, secondary research is an analysis and interpretation of existing research. This method of research is used in many fields all around the world, such as: social science, in business and for students of natural science. A broad range of material can be used from many different sources for secondary researchers, which can include anything from scholarly article, books, government securities, websites of standards, on – line production, etc. In order for one to properly employ secondary research methods and utilize them to effectively provide supporting evidences for various forms of reports or academic papers, one must first and foremost be familiar with the different types of sources available along with the consistently standardized approach towards documenting or referencing these sources. The types of sources available for secondary research can be categorized into two subcategories: kinds of sources and types of resources. An academic journal for example, is considered highly credible due to its academic rigors. It can benefit and support arguments and studies in diverse fields like psychological testing, critical analysis of films or pictures, religious studies, and social sciences studies (Zurell et al., 2020).

For instance, this type of analysis of the data is useful in cases such as a literary work, where it generates a sort of analysis of the text of the work to come to certain theories. Furthermore, we are moving towards other forms of data analysis, like quantitative, which is a mathematical method of analyzing data. However, it consists of the number rather than the words. Moreover, this kind of analysis of the data involves a large number of people through surveys, and the results they obtain are in the form of figures. As a consequence, they employed different tests to forecast the results. (Paragraph) In using secondary studies, arguments have to be supported by evidence-based reasoning from reliable resources. Examples of using this type of reasoning can be very persuasive, as long as we follow the criteria of what a good academic argument is. Other ways to support an argument are by addressing statements from several acclaimed intellectuals on the subject of the paper or by providing examples that will successfully illustrate an organization’s experience or history (Hennink & Kaiser 2022).
